Shocks & Saves” Charity
Hockey Game a Success!
The first
annual MCVI Foundation “Shocks & Saves” charity game saw Detroit Red
Wings defensemen Jiri Fisher make his first public skate since he
collapsed on the Red Wings bench on November 21, 2005.
Former NHLer’s Don Edwards and Warren Rychel, as well as
several local doctors and medical professionals, also participated in
the event that raised almost $30,000 for Fischer’s Healthy Hope
Foundation. The monies raised
will used to place 20 Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) in
mid-Michigan schools, ice rinks and nonprofit agencies.
The
“Shocks & Saves” charity game was organized by the Michigan
CardioVascular Institute (MCVI) Foundation, in
partnership with Mobile Medical Response (MMR) and the Saginaw Spirit.
Presenting sponsors were Biotronik ‘Excellence for Life’,
Covenant HealthCare and MidMichigan Medical Center – Midland.
After a hard fought effort for a heart-health cause, team Shocks
prevailed over team Saves with
a 7-3 victory. “We came out
hard and skated fast,” stated MCVI invasive cardiologist Dr. Peter
Fattal, “The bigger Jiri’s smile got, the harder all of us played.
We appreciate everyone's participation and look forward to
another great event next year!”
