Congestive Heart Failure Clinic

MCVI is proud to announce the addition of Virginia Roland, MSN, APRN, BC to our staff as the Director of the MCVI Congestive Heart Failure Clinic.

As many of you already know, Virginia was the coordinator of
Covenant’s CHF outpatient program.  She will continue to monitor
the CHF patient population at MCVI in many ways.
She will see patients in our office (and satellite clinics in the
future).

About Congestive Heart Failure
The words "heart failure" sound scary, as if the heart is about to
fail at any second.  What is really means is that the heart is not
pumping as well as it should to deliver oxygen-rich blood to the body's
cells.  The term congestive heart failure describes the condition in which there is a buildup of fluid (called congestion) in the lungs and other body tissues.

How serious the condition is depends on how much pumping capacity the heart has lost.  Most people lose some pumping capacity as they age.  But the loss is significantly more in heart failure which often results from a heart attack or other diseases that damage the heart such as coronary artery disease or high blood pressure, which typically develops slowly over many years.

If you become enrolled in MCVI's CHF clinic, you can expect:

  •   Medication Management & Adjustment
    •   Water Pills and Blood Pressure Medications
    •   Monitor Lab Results
  •   Dietary Counseling
  •   Weight and Symptom Monitoring
  •   Guidance Related to Activity and Exercise
  •   Ongoing Monitoring of Clinical Status Related to Heart Failure

Non-invasive Hemodynamic Monitoring:  This is a simple test that can be performed during an office visit just like an EKG.  This test provides our staff with information about cardiac pressures that help determine the appropriateness of a patient's medical therapy.
