Coreg Titration

Coreg is a medication classified as a beta-blocker.  Carvedilol is its generic name.  Although you may be put on Coreg for a few different reasons, one of its most common uses is to treat a weak heart muscle.

When you are started on Coreg for a weak heart muscle, your physician will set a target dose.  The most common target dose is 25 milligrams twice a day.  You are usually started out on a low dose, such as 3.125 milligrams or 6.25 milligrams twice a day.  This will be doubled in approximately two weeks.  You will continue to double the dose, as instructed by your physician, until your target dose is reached.  Please remember that every patient is different and titration methods may vary.

Your physician should be notified if you experience any adverse reactions after starting the medication.  You may experience things such as dizziness, fatigue, shortness of breath, swelling, low blood pressure, feeling faint, stomach upset or weight gain.
